The General Assembly

ga222-circle-colors-vector-smaller-border-300x292Every other year when Our General Assembly meets, it’s helpful to remind ourselves what it is. It’s helpful to remember, too, how we are organized. The Presbyterian Church, USA is a “representational” Church. We are not a “hierarchical” church where many key decisions are made by a bishop or a central body. We are not a “congregational” church, independent from all other congregations and church bodies,
making decisions that apply only to us.

  •  We follow a pattern we find in the Scriptures. We are led by “ruling elders,” elected by a congregation, and “teaching elders,” church pastors and others in different ministries.
  • A group of Presbyterian congregations in a geographical area is a “presbytery.” Central, Faith, and First here in Pine Bluff, along with almost 90 other congregations, are part of Arkansas
    Presbytery.
  •  Groups of Presbyteries in different regions of the country are called a “synod.” Presbyterians in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Louisiana, are in the Synod of the Sun.

God filled the world with a lot of crazy creatures…including you! When kids feel weird, different, or even lost in a crowd—nothing compares to the extraordinary love of Jesus. That why we’re so excited to open registration for our Weird Animals VBS! Children from age 4 to rising 7th graders can register HERE! VBS will be from July 17th and 18th 5:30pm till 9pm and Saturday July 19th 9am till 1:15pm! We have lots of FUN and WeIrD things planned!

In addition to our Weird Animals VBS, Transitional Pastor Rev. David S. King will be holding an Adult VBS about being a Presbyterian. We will have an opportunity to explore our Presbyterian heritage and learn more about how we are like other churches and how we are different. Plan to join us in the Library, while the kids learn about Weird Animals, as we learn more about our unique part of the body of Christ.

We hope to see everyone there!

Nursery Volunteers Needed

nurseryvolunteersneeded
After nearly ten years of faithful service to the young children and their families in Central Presbyterian, Laura Cosner has resigned from her position as full time nursery attendant. She is taking this time to explore other areas in which she can grow and help nurture others at Central. In fact, she has already been asked and accepted a position on a committee! Laura, THANK YOU for all you have done. We will miss your smiling face in the nursery every Sunday, but will enjoy seeing you become more involved in other areas.
To help fill the role of nursery attendant, the Education Committee has decided to try a weekly sign up period. The sign up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board in McElyea Hall. One or two people will be needed each Sunday. Two people would allow the older children to go outside while the other person stays inside with the younger infants. Please see Amanda or Laura Pierce with any questions.
