The Perfect Gift

cjo-2018-387x500In the lead up to Christmas, many of us spend time in search of the perfect gift — the gift that communicates to friends and family how much we know and love them. We search our memories for indications of what gift might cause the faces of our loved ones to light up on Christmas morning. We scour the stores and shops, hoping to come across the thing that will communicate a depth that our words cannot.

For those of us gathered together in Advent expectation, we know that the only perfect gift ever given was the one we received in Jesus Christ. At the Incarnation, we celebrate God who came to dwell among us, bringing light into darkness, and reconciliation to God and to one another. A perfect gift from a gracious God. Although we cannot give the perfect gift, we can give generously, knowing, as the New Testament letter of James says, “every generous act of giving … is from above.” And, as important as gifts to loved ones are, the Church rejoices and gives in special ways, drawing us back, again and again, to a manger scene with bowed shepherds and joyous angels, and the truth of God’s perfect gift to us.

Follow Us! CPC on Social Media

cpcsocialmediaOur Everest VBS was a wonderful success and now that we’re headed into the dog days of summer we want to take a moment to remind everyone of our Social Media Accounts!

Central Presbyterian Church is on Twitter! This communication platform is used for small bits of information such as Prayer requests and event notifications. We’ll keep reminders of bigger events and news on our Facebook and Google + pages and longer more detailed information here on our website. I’ll take this opportunity to also plug our Flickr page! It contains lots of photos from our past and our present and we’ll be continuing to upload scans of older photos from the CPC’s history there as well. Look for pictures from VBS on all of our accounts and links to all of these sites can be found in the right hand column of this website!

The Digital Scene

CentralSceneheader

The Central Scene has gone digital! As always we’ll continue to host the Central Scene here at the website, but in an effort to be more environmentally responsible and cost conscious, we’re changing the newsletter’s preferred delivery method to E-mail! April’s Newsletter has already been sent via E-mail. We’ll also be delivering this month’s via postal mail as well. April will be the last delivered to your postal address if you don’t let the church office know of your preference for postal mail. If you didn’t receive one via email, would prefer to keep receiving the newsletter via postal mail, or would like to add someone to the mailing list for the newsletter, please contact the church office.

Faith Endures

“Hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts.” (Romans 5:5)

The One Great Hour of Sharing Special Offering will be taken during our Easter Morning Service.

OUR HANDS OF HOPE

When you give to One Great Hour of Sharing you are assisting in the empowerment of others as they move past emotional, physical, and spiritual misfortune. Your help gives hope.

At home and abroad, Presbyterian Disaster Assistance helps strengthen the faith community and enables those affected by natural or human-caused disasters to be part of the rebuilding and recovery efforts in their communities.

Life-changing grassroots programs like Huerto de la Familia (The Family Garden) are supported by the Presbyterian Hunger Program. Huerto de la Familia strives to cultivate community integration and economic self-sufficiency through training in organic farming and the development of food-based small businesses.

Self-Development of People, through your generous gifts, provides grants to organizations like A Community Voice in New Orleans, a neighborhood group which assists low-to-moderate-income families in applying for jobs, housing, and food assistance.

Give to One Great Hour of Sharing to support these Presbyterian Mission Agency ministries as they strive to help all of God’s people find resilience, hope, and faith in the face of challenging circumstances.

There are three ways to contrinbute to the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering. Donate at CPC using the envelopes located in the Easter Bulletin, text OGHS to 20222 to give $10, or donate online at presbyterianmission.org/give-oghs .
