Cave Quest VBS is Coming Soon

imagegenGear up for an over-the-top underground adventure! We’ll be helping to ground kids in the rock-solid foundation of God’s Love, a love that takes us through life’s dark times. The Cave Quest VBS will be July 14 through 16th. Meals will be provided! We’ll have fun music, crafts, and a Bounce House on Saturday. An Adult Bible Study will also be held. Evening Classes will run from 5:30 p to 8:30 p. Saturday we’ll be starting at 9 am and ending at 3 pm. Download the official VBS apps from Google Play or the Apple App Store! The Minute for Mission

stop-watch-icon-hiWe’ve traditionally used the PC(USA) Mission Yearbook for our “Minute for Mission” during worship each Sunday. But, some of you have had questions about it recently. Here is some of what we’ve heard:

  • “Why do we have a Minute for Mission every Sunday?”
  • “Why is it about people and places we don’t know about?”
  • “Why is it always a lot more than a minute?”

Those are the kinds of questions we pastor-types enjoy hearing. That means you’re taking worship seriously.

One of the ways we Presbyterians have talked about worship over the centuries is that “through the Word and Sacrament the church is empowered to serve God in the world.” Notice that last phrase: “to serve God in the world.” When we come together to worship it isn’t to hide out from a harsh world. We worship to give thanks for God’s presence in our lives and to help us see more clearly that God is active in our world. Worship will give us more commitment and energy to serve God beyond the church walls.

So, to make that part of our worship more clear and less boring, we’re going to be doing some things differently:

  • The Minute for Mission will be more focused, more clear, more condensed;
  • It will include more information about church mission in our community, our state, and our region, as well as the rest of the world;
  • It will help us learn more about how our mission dollars and other gifts are being used in the name of Jesus Christ to ease people’s burdens and give them hope;
  • It will challenge us to find ways to give thanks for God’s blessings to us by making gifts that will help others also experience God’s blessings.

Holy Week Schedule 2016

holyweekIt’s Holy Week! This Sunday CPC will Join First Presbyterian for Palm Sunday Worship. Services start at 10:30 AM. THERE WILL BE NO SERVICES 3/20 AT CPC! The Final Lesson of the Lenten Bible Study series will happen during out Thursday Noon Potluck. Our Maundy Thursday Worship, with a meal and Communion will be 3/24 at 6pm. CPC will join First again for a Good Friday Service in their Chapel 3/25 at 5:30pm. Easter Sunday will begin at 8 am with a Sunrise Breakfast. The Easter Egg Hunt will be at 9am. Easter Worship will begin at a special time of 10am! Easter Sunday we’ll be collecting the One Great Hour of Sharing offering. We hope to see you as we celebrate our risen Lord!

Lenten Bible Study

hLent is a time for reflection and growth. This  year we at Central will be looking at The Lord’s Prayer. If you don’t already, come join us for lunchtime conversations each Thursday at noon. If we have your email address, watch for special emails during Lent. If we have your mailing address, your copy will be coming soon. Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday

Shrove16Central Presbyterian will be holding it’s Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 9th @  5:30 pm! The cost is $7 per person & $15 per family (Limit 4). Our Ash Wednesday Service will be at Noon on February 10th. An Evening Ash Wednesday Service will be available at First Presbyterian @ 5:30 pm. We hope you can celebrate the beginning of the Lent Season.

Advent Season 2015

advent_hope-2Advent Season is upon us once again! To prepare for the celebration of Jesus’ birth Central Presbyterian has a month full of activities! We’ll begin with the Annual Moravian Love Feast on 11/29. This traditional meal of sweet breads will be accompanied by a performance of the Moravian Love Feast Band. Our Christmas Cantata will be 12/20 this year. It will be a joint performance of the Central, First, and Faith Presbyterian Church Choirs. Finally we’ll be holding our annual Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at 5:30 pm on Christmas Eve. We hope to see you during this wonderful season!

Trunk or Treat & Heritage Sunday

Truck or Treat returns Saturday, October 31st! We’ll be opening out Trunks for Treats of all ages starting at 3pm till 5pm! We hope a lot of our neighborhood children start their night with us! We can’t wait to see you there!!

UPDATE: We will be having Trunk or Treat RAIN OR SHINE! If it rains we will move the “trunks” into the Education wing. See you there!

The next day will be Heritage Sunday. It’s our annual joint worship service with the other two PC(USA) congregations in Pine Bluff. This year we will be worshiping at Faith Presbyterian Church. Again, there will be NO SERVICE at CPC on Nov. 1st. Faith Presbyterian is located at 913 University Drive. We will be providing Bus Service from CPC to Faith at 9:15 am and 10:30 am. The bus will return after the completion of lunch at Faith. It will make 2 trips back to accommodate everyone. Please join us in this wonderful worship experience!

Sunday, May 31st is Youth Sunday. Our Youth and Youth Leaders are planning a wonderful service. You will not want to miss this time to see our youth in action as they lead our worship that day.

The Central Scene has gone digital! As always we’ll continue to host the Central Scene here at the website, but in an effort to be more environmentally responsible and cost conscious, we’re changing the newsletter’s preferred delivery method to E-mail! April’s Newsletter has already been sent via E-mail. We’ll also be delivering this month’s via postal mail as well. April will be the last delivered to your postal address if you don’t let the church office know of your preference for postal mail. If you didn’t receive one via email, would prefer to keep receiving the newsletter via postal mail, or would like to add someone to the mailing list for the newsletter, please contact the church office.

Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday

Our Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will take place Next Tuesday at 5:30 PM. Come and enjoy a fabulous fellowship meal!

For Ash Wednesday this year we’re making a small change to what we do. We’re adding a second Noon Ash Wednesday service to our regularly scheduled Evening service that happens at 6pm. We hope this allows everyone who would like to attend a chance to participate in our Ash Wednesday services.
